An INTERSOS emergency team is in Lviv, Ukraine, to assist internally displaced persons and support local health facilities

Hospitals and health facilities in Lviv, Ukraine, are in dire straits – Marcelo Garcia Dalla Costa, head of INTEROS’ Emergency Unit, explains from the Ukrainian city – especially those close to the fighting area. There is a lack of medical doctors, drugs and medical equipment. This is where we want to focus our intervention on, guaranteeing support to health facilities to help cope with the enormous amount of needs”. We are in Lviv, in western Ukraine, in the area still less involved in the conflict, about 100 km from the Polish border.

“Civil society and local administrations are mobilising all possible resources to help the huge number of displaced people arriving or in transit Garcia Dalla Costa continues – but they must not be left alone to face the growing humanitarian needs, not only health but also protection. It is estimated that the population present in Lviv has already increased by 10% (we are talking about those who remain: the majority of displaced people transit towards the neighbouring countries). In these days we have visited the reception centers set up by the municipality and we are ready to intervene together with local organisations“.
