Today we release the Report 2021 – Europe Region, about our frontline activities for migrants and vulnerable people in Greece and Italy
The Report 2021 – Europe Region illustrates our activities on the frontline for migrants and vulnerable people in Greece and Italy. INTERSOS’ approach aims to provide socio-medical and psychological support, and migrants with the tools for self-determined and dignified integration. In 2021 the Pagella in tasca project was launched, a safe and regular entry channel for 35 unaccompanied refugee minors from Niger, now welcomed into families in Turin and supported in their schooling. An innovative project that sees for the first time the study visa applied to refugee minors in Italy.
In Italy INTERSOS also operates in Rome, Foggia and Sicily. In the capital, through the intervention of the INTERSOS24 and INTERSOSLAB centres and two mobile clinics, we supported 2,108 people in vulnerable conditions, often migrants. INTERSOS’ integrated approach includes social and health services, orientation and job placement, overnight accommodation, psycho-social support and activities for minors and women survivors of gender-based violence. In the province of Foggia and in Sicily, we offer medical assistance and health inclusion in informal settlements that host mainly migrant seasonal agricultural workers. Over 2,000 people have been visited and 500 health kits distributed.
In Greece, and particularly in the regions of Epirus, Thessaly, Athens and Lesvos, INTERSOS HELLAS activities have ensured housing independence for 3,272 people. In Lesvos, INTERSOS offers psycho-social support to refugees on the island. In the Mavrovouni refugee camp INTERSOS focuses its intervention on vulnerable women and survivors of violence, and carried out 1,509 individual sessions and 996 psychological support sessions.
The INTERSOS Europe programme was established as the Migration Unit in 2011 to intervene in a specialised way in the Mediterranean migratory phenomenon. Ten years of commitment in the sectors of protection, socio-medical assistance, long-term reception and integration.
